How the Doggy Stole Solstice

Everyone in our house had that holiday cheer
Except for the dog who refused to adhere
This time it was special – a lunar eclipse
Plus a fire and wine, it was not to be missed
But as the dog witnessed our holiday rite
She determined that she should put up a fight
A terrible, awful idea had she
To steal our roast beast and tear down our tree
But as the earth’s axis was tilting away
And the planets aligned on the sphere’s shortest day
That doggy stepped up not a moment too soon
Stealing the show by eclipsing the moon
Then when she realized that Autumn had ceased
She propped up the tree and carved the roast beast
