Three Tips to Strengthening the Connection Between You and Your Loved One

I’ve recently acquired a fascination with a subject that most of us think about, but are often too vulnerable and scared to openly address. We wonder what’s the secret to building a stronger bond. How do we achieve the quiet intimacy that deep down inside each of us wants to share? A quick search on the internet turned up advice that I fear is a bit pedestrian for the savvy irondoggy.com reader – “demonstrate fondness and admiration”, “structure time to talk and listen”, “start your day with a kiss”.   Sure, that’s good advice but what happens when the one on the other end of the leash wants to chase a rabbit?

Here’s what I think:

  1. Use a leash built with military spec webbing - A United States Defense Standard, often called a military standard, “MIL-STD”, “MIL-SPEC”.  It has a minimum tensile strength of 4000 lbs.
  2. Make certain your leash can absorb the shock of lunging and pulling from your dog.   Find something built with heavy duty bungee that has excellent resistance to abrasion and fatigue.
  3. Find a way to attach the leash to the core of your body, rather than taking the risk of holding it in your hand and accidentally dropping it.

It turns out that you don’t have to hide your eyes, or throw your hands up in the air thinking there’s nothing you can do about it.   Strengthening the connection between you and your dog may be as simple as finding the right leash.
